What We Do

HER Breast Friends helps in any way that it can and tries to create a positive view and environment for all affected by Breast Cancer in several ways including:

The Pink Pamper Day
Breast Cancer treatments can have some side effects that can affect not only the appearance, but can badly knock self-confidence and self-esteem too.  It can be a lot to cope with on top of recovery from your treatment regime.  The annual HER Breast Friends Pink Pamper Day caters for Breast Cancer patients from Hull and the East Riding area and provides a free day of relaxation, inspiration, encouragement, and rejuvenation to help promote a sense of well being
for local people affected by Breast Cancer, in a very practical way.
The costs are borne completely by fundraising events and donations and
qualified complementary therapists, workshop facilitators and others all very
kindly volunteer their time and skills to staff the event.

Buddleia Complementary Therapies
HER Breast Friends set up Buddleia with the aim of providing a free* or *subsidised complementary therapy service to cancer patients receiving treatment in our area in a safe and supportive environment.  This will allow cancer patients the choice of using complementary therapies as a means of supporting their wellbeing during treatment, including those who may not ordinarily have the financial means to do so.  The holistic culture for oncology is growing rapidly and HER Breast Friends and Buddleia are delivering on many aspects of it in a way that is hopefully going to make complementary therapies accessible to all.
*N.B. Free or subsided sessions are subject to available funding at time of initial consultation.
Please enquire for further details by telephoning Buddleia on 07792 574897.

Wig Bank
With the NHS in England charging over £59.20 for an acrylic wig the Wig Bank has opened the door for local people to obtain donated wigs for a reasonable donation from around £10.  People donate their no longer needed wigs to the Wig Bank and they are then washed and conditioned and prepared for sale.  Clients get their wig at a reasonable cost and are helping a local good cause in the process!  There are a lot of people on low incomes and do not qualify for a free wig from the NHS.  There is also another bigger group of people whose income drops sharply whilst they are undergoing treatment for cancer.  The low prices of donated wigs at the Wig Bank allows for the changing of a hairstyle throughout treatment.  You can afford to swap and change as you please!  A visit to the Wig Bank can be cheaper than a trip to the hairdressers!  All the proceeds go to support HER Breast Friends and our Buddleia Complementary Therapies project.

Other Ways We Help
HER Breast Friends takes a flexible approach when looking at ways to support and help those affected by Breast Cancer.  Sometimes it is achieved by doing the simplest of things, other times it takes more time and resources, but we always try to help if we can.  On those occasions when we can’t help we often know from experience the organisations or people who can and provide a supportive link.
